Lotus Cars, now under the ownership of Geely and manufacturing electric vehicles (BEVs) in China, introduced its latest electric marvel, the Emeya, at a special event held in New York City.
This hyper GT marks a significant milestone for Lotus as it not only represents their second BEV but also their inaugural 4-door hyper-GT. A standout feature of the Emeya is its astonishing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/hr in an astounding 2.8 seconds.
The British automaker Lotus, with Geely’s support and a state-of-the-art $1.2 billion factory in China, has made a resolute commitment to transition entirely to electric vehicles, starting in 2021. Lotus outlined a comprehensive plan to unveil a new model each year until 2026.
This electrifying transformation commenced with the Eletre, an E-segment SUV codenamed Type 132, which garnered attention at major international auto exhibitions. The Emeya, now revealed, signifies the next phase in Lotus’ expanding electric vehicle lineup, with several more BEV models in the pipeline.
The upcoming additions include a four-door coupe (Type 133) slated for release in 2023, followed by a D-segment SUV (Type 134) scheduled for 2025, and an entirely new electric sports car (Type 135) expected in 2026. The introduction of the Emeya as a 4-door hyper-GT marks a significant departure from Lotus’ traditional sports car offerings.
