CBS News executive president Neeraj Khemlani is leaving his post after just over two years, according to a staff memo obtained by Axios.
The sudden announcement Sunday evening lacked details of the succession plan.
A new memo obtained by Axios revealed that CBS Chairman and CEO George Cheeks, who also holds the title of chief content officer for Paramount+ news and sports, will soon give employees an update on new leadership and of departmental organization.
Khemlani’s own communications say he opted to step down from his current position and enter into “a new multi-year multi-platform first-look deal with CBS to produce content”.
The deal includes documentaries, scripted series, and books varieties of Simon & Schuster.
During Khemlani’s tenure, CBS News appointed activists, including Cecilia Vega and Robert Costa.

However, some activities in the media sector carry more emphasis compared to others. While “60 Minutes” is the most-watched TV news program and “Face the Nation” has established itself as the top-rated Sunday morning political commentary show over the past few years, weekday sits as “CBS Mornings” and “CBS Evening.” programming and media” trails its competitors in terms of ratings.
Khemlani’s departure marks the third departure in four years of a CBS News executive. He took over as CBS News co-president in 2021 with veteran television producer Wendy McMahon, succeeding CBS News veteran Susan Zirinsky, who had taken over as CBS News president in 2019 from David Rhodes . . . .
