Due to a shortfall of 6,516 megawatts, the duration of power load shedding in various regions of Pakistan has been extended to up to ten hours. Reports indicate that the electricity demand reached its peak at 28,000 MW, surpassing the available supply of 21,484 MW.
Currently, power generation in the country includes 7,037 MW from hydro sources, 956 MW from government-owned thermal power plants, 8,900 MW from private sector power plants, 1,119 MW from wind power plants, 120 MW from solar power plants, and 3,164 MW from nuclear power plants.
The Meteorological Office has forecasted hot and humid weather in most parts of the country, with the possibility of dusty and gusty winds in plain areas over the next twelve hours. However, there are expectations of dust-thunderstorms and rain in Northeast Punjab, Islamabad, the Potohar region, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, North/East Balochistan, and Kashmir.
The statement from the Met Office also mentioned that the prevailing heat wave conditions are expected to alleviate during the forecast period.
