Hiroshi Kawamura, the Chief Executive of Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd (PSMCL), has announced that the company is actively working on exporting cars upgraded to meet various WP-29 standards, according to a report by The News.
During an interactive meeting with part manufacturers organized by Suzuki Motors, Kawamura emphasized that economic challenges were temporary, and the company remained dedicated to offering affordable vehicles to the Pakistani public. He also revealed that Pak Suzuki was in the process of developing hybrid variants.
In the meeting, attended by prominent part manufacturers, there was a unanimous agreement on the importance of promoting local production while expanding into global markets.
Kawamura stressed the need for collaborative efforts among local stakeholders, stating that addressing the current challenges facing the automotive industry requires collective action and local partnerships.
Usman Aslam Malik, Senior Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM), pledged full support for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in exporting auto components.
It’s worth noting that WP-29 standards are established within the institutional framework of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee and provide a global regulatory forum for motor vehicles and equipment.

These standards encompass UN Regulations, United Nations Global Technical Regulations (UN GTRs), and UN Rules, each associated with specific agreements adopted in 1958, 1997, and 1998.
