The latest on-ground surveys indicate that Imran Khan and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continue to be the most popular nationwide party, surpassing their popularity in 2018.
But the latest survey indicates there is a shift in the PTI popularity in the political landscape in Punjab. While PTI is still ahead, the popularity gap between PTI and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Punjab has narrowed. Previously, PTI had a 15% lead, which has reduced to around 5%.
Nationwide, PTI maintains a considerable lead over PML-N. However, in Punjab, the PML-N has seen an improvement in popularity, potentially posing a strong challenge to PTI in the upcoming general elections in the province.
The sources cite a recent survey indicating that PTI’s current nationwide popularity is higher than in 2018, while PML-N’s popularity is lower than its standing in the previous elections.
The post-April 2022 unpopularity of PML-N in Punjab, its traditional stronghold, has reportedly improved in recent months, especially after the return of Nawaz Sharif from self-exile. The next five weeks leading up to the February 8 general elections are considered crucial for political parties and voters. As the election campaigns intensify, changes in voter trends are expected.
Surveys conducted last year indicated strong support for PTI, with Imran Khan having the highest positive approval rating among politicians. In Punjab, the positive approval rating for Imran Khan was 58%, while other political figures also garnered varying levels of support. The surveys suggest that the political landscape is dynamic, and the final assessments close to the polling day will be more indicative of the election results.
