Late Thursday, the five-member crew of the missing submersible Titan was officially declared dead. The OceanGate Expedition-owned vessel had lost contact with its mothership on Sunday after descending into the ocean to explore the famous Titanic shipwreck resting on the seabed.The US Coast Guard reported that the debris found near the Titanic shipwreck site was consistent with a “catastrophic implosion” of the submersible.

According to a blog post by his wife, Christine Dawood, on Next Step Now, Shahzada Dawood had previously survived a harrowing plane incident in 2019. Christine recalled the incident, expressing regret about not recognizing the signs when their flight was initially canceled.
Describing the terrifying ordeal, she wrote, “This flight became one of the most memorable ones of my life.” She detailed the deep plunges the plane experienced, causing passengers to cry out in unison before falling into silence. Christine clung to her armrests for stability, seeking something solid in the midst of the turbulence thousands of feet above the ground.
The flight encountered multiple violent descents, leaving her feeling helpless amidst the chaos. She noted that even her seasoned traveler and adventurous husband, Shahzada Dawood, was scared. In those moments, she reflected on the missed opportunities in life and her husband’s desire to continue teaching their children.
As the plane turned, forcing her to look down, Christine locked eyes with her husband, their hands intertwined. No words were necessary; their fear was shared. Though their plane ultimately landed safely, the experience remained deeply ingrained in her memory.
