Sharjah Ruler, His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member , inaugurated the University of Kalba, a new scientific and academic institution in Sharjah.
The university aims to provide education, knowledge, and skills to the community across various fields. Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, also attended the event.
The University of Kalba will offer several colleges, including Law, Business Administration, Arts, Sciences, Information Technology, Communication, and Sport Sciences. Graduates of the College of Sport Sciences will be trained for roles in sports clubs, fitness centers, schools, and as educators for students with disabilities. The university has partnered with Monash University to develop its physical education and sports science programs.
Sheikh Sultan emphasized that this inauguration marks the beginning of valuable projects in Kalba, and he expects the city to experience significant development and progress. He explained that “Kalba” is named after a thorny tree called “Kaleba” or Umm Al Ghilan, which thrives in dry and barren lands.
Following speeches, Sheikh Sultan unveiled a commemorative tablet and raised the university’s flag. He toured the university’s facilities, including study halls and laboratories, designed to provide high-quality education to students.
Legislation for the University of Kalba was also discussed, including the establishment of colleges, departments, research centers, and a board of trustees. The legislation outlines the governance structure, the appointment of key positions, and organizational details for various committees and offices affiliated with the university. It also lays the groundwork for academic and administrative regulations.
The decision stipulates that the university consists of colleges, scientific departments and institutions, and research, education, and training centers as follows:
1. College of Sports Sciences
2. College of Business Administration
3. College of Arts, Sciences, Information Technology and Communication
4. College of Law
5. Scientific Research Department
6. Community Communication Department
7. Managing institutional effectiveness and accreditation.
The decision also stipulates that the university shall have a board of trustees that represents the supreme authority in it and undertakes general supervision of its management.
It shall be composed of a sufficient number of members by a decision of the president. When forming the board, it shall include:
1. Chancellor of the University.
2. A number of public figures in society.
3. A number of distinguished international scientific figures.
The University of Kalba’s Director, Dr. Saif Salem Al Qaydi, welcomed Sheikh Sultan and expressed gratitude for his support in opening the university. He emphasized the university’s commitment to providing a high-quality educational environment and fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and excellence in the region.
The university aims to equip the next generation with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle future challenges and contribute effectively to society. It upholds values of integrity, inclusiveness, and innovation while striving to offer educational opportunities to all individuals.
Dr. Al Qaydi provided an overview of the university’s four colleges and their programs, including law, business administration, arts, sciences, information technology, communication, and upcoming sports sciences programs.
He urged the university’s faculty and staff to recognize their responsibility in building a legacy that shapes the region’s future. Dr. Al Qaydi expressed confidence in creating an environment that promotes critical thinking and creativity, with the support of the government, cooperation of staff, and ambition of students.
The university’s infrastructure includes modern, gender-segregated facilities designed to meet students’ needs, including classrooms, laboratories, administrative offices, and a variety of amenities. The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent officials and dignitaries from the region, reflecting the significance of this educational milestone.
