Two 44-year-old men were killed in a shooting at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen on Thursday morning. The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Stuttgart said that a single perpetrator was responsible for the incident, which took place at the automaker’s Factory 56 where the firm’s flagship S-Class vehicle is produced.
An external worker from a logistics firm, aged 53, has been arrested. The suspect was believed to have fired shots at a production line team leader before being overpowered and detained by staff until the police arrived.
Emergency services, including two helicopters and several emergency doctors, were deployed to the site. Asearch was carried out to locate other injured individuals. The German government has previously promised to revisit firearms laws following a shooting in Hamburg in March in which six people were killed at a Jehovah’s Witness hall.
