Trump Returns to Social Media X, formerly known as Twitter, after 2.5 years of absence shortly after he surrendered at an Atlanta jail.
Donald Trump posted a mug shot of himself along with the words “Election interference. Never surrender!” and a link to his fundraising website.
This marks his first post since January 8, 2021, when Twitter suspended his account due to concerns about inciting violence after the Capitol riot. His account was reinstated in November under new ownership led by Elon Musk, but he had refrained from tweeting, focusing instead on his own platform, Truth Social.
Trump’s return to X coincides with his status as the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination. It’s unclear if this post is a one-time event or if he plans to continue posting regularly. He had posted the same message on Truth Social earlier in the night and expressed his love for the platform.
This return to X is significant for Trump, as he used Twitter effectively in the past to dominate political discourse. His post also included a fundraising pitch, reflecting the financial strain his political operation has faced due to legal battles.
Although Trump has a massive following on X, the platform has evolved since his departure, including a name change initiated by Elon Musk. Trump had also returned to Facebook earlier, but he mainly used Truth Social for daily updates, including legal developments and announcements.
As part of a deal to take Truth Social public, Trump had agreed to prioritize posting on Truth Social for a specified period, which ended in June 2023, and not post the same content on other social media sites within six hours of posting on Truth Social.
