Ahead of series against Afghanistan, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Head Zaka Ashraf met with the Pakistan cricket team on Monday in Hambantota, Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, Mr Ashraf motivated the team and told them that every players is performing well and Pakistan team has very talented players. He also said that each player had been showcasing commendable performances.
He pointed out that the Pakistan team possessed a lineup of world-class batters and bowlers, instilling confidence in their ability to secure victories and clinch trophies. Ashraf expressed conviction in the team’s powerful composition, asserting that they were capable of triumphing over any opponent on the global stage.
Drawing upon the team’s past successes, Ashraf underscored that the Pakistan squad had previously secured the Asia Cup twice, in 2000 and 2012. This history, he stated, signified their potential to once again claim the championship. Offering his best wishes to the team, the PCB MC Head conveyed his belief that by seizing victory in the upcoming Asia Cup, they could gather momentum leading up to the World Cup. He encouraged them to envision returning home from India with the coveted World Cup trophy in hand.
Commencing on August 30 in Multan, the Asia Cup is set to begin with Pakistan’s opening match against Nepal. Subsequently, the team’s debut in the World Cup is scheduled for October 6 in Hyderabad, where they will face off against the Netherlands.
On the other hand, Pakistan has officially announced its intention to participate in the upcoming cricket World Cup in India, a move that is being widely perceived as a chance for countless fans to witness another intense competition between India and Pakistan.
The much-anticipated announcement was made by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday through an official statement. This comes at a time of escalating diplomatic tensions between the two nations, which have been embroiled in a series of territorial and maritime disputes for several decades.
Stressing the principle that sports and politics should remain separate, Pakistan’s statement highlighted its decision to send its cricket team to India for the upcoming ICC (International Cricket Council) Cricket World Cup in 2023.
