On his 50th birthday, India’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar was honored by the Sharjah Cricket Stadium with the renaming of the West Stand to the Sachin Tendulkar Stand.
The ceremony took place in the United Arab Emirates where Tendulkar had scored 143 runs against Australia in April 1998 during a One-Day International match, famously known as the ‘Desert Storm’ due to a sand storm. His exceptional innings guided India to the tri-series final against Australia, which India won by six wickets with Tendulkar striking 134 runs on his 25th birthday. Khalaf Bukhatir, the chief executive of Sharjah Cricket, stated that the day was unforgettable, not only for Tendulkar but also for everyone who witnessed it. Additionally, the Sydney Cricket Ground also paid tribute to Tendulkar and West Indies batsman Brian Lara by unveiling a set of gates named after them. Tendulkar, who retired from the professional game in 2013, holds the record for scoring an unmatched 100 international centuries in a remarkable career spanning 24 years.
